Framing

It's been a few days since Steve and I have visited/stalked our lot and this is what we discovered today...

...ECSTATIC only begins to explain how we felt! I cannot believe how quickly our house is coming together.

It seems to be growing overnight.

As you can see the garage is still in the beginning stages with just blocks in place at this point and the gravel is where our driveway will be located.

Today we visited in two parts, before and after a meeting with our lending guy. We had some questions about our mortgage commitment letter and it just so happened the underwriter sent incorrect forms. I am very thankful we scheduled this meeting because now my mind is at ease. A suggestion for all home buyers: do your research and ask questions. You want to believe you are working with professional people (and most of the time you are) that are honest and reliable, but doing your homework and speaking up when you have a concern has made a tremendous difference in our home buying process. Trust me it pays off in the end!

Part two of our visit happened when the crew had already departed for the day, so Steve and I took the opportunity to explore.

Looks like we will have windows installed by the end of the weekend

Soon to be a fireplace

Framing is definitely my favorite part of the housing process thus far. Seeing your house literally being built before your eyes is an incredible experience. I am so excited to see what develops next!

Jacque and the Chasm

We have... dirt!

Who thought one could be so thrilled about a hole in the ground! Check out the latest development with our plot of earth:

Steve should climb this!

A new toy!

I wonder if they will let me drive it?!

Now that the house is under way, Steve and I started to think about how to protect said house. So we looked into home security systems, pricing, package options, etc.  We looked at many different websites and looked at all of their different options from various name brand companies.  In our meanderings, we stumbled upon this:

A security system that encourages you to buy a dog...FANTASTIC!

Apparently, the Scottish Terrier was recommended as a family friendly, small dog.  We thought it was great that a technology-based security system was promoting adopting security dogs to supplement their product!  (I have decided that I MUST have this pup and I will name him Jacque like the dog from Lady and the Tramp, Jock, with a french edge.)

A Female Perspective

Those of you that know me well know that I'm a bit indecisive at times. I like to think of it as being open minded, but when it comes to building a house, there is no room for indecisiveness. With that being said, Steve and I have taken the proactive approach to the bazillion number of choices we will have to make by taking trips to Home Depot and snapping pictures of anything and everything we come across.

Below are some thoughts of mine about the home selection process. Enjoy :)

Kitchen Appliances:

Kitchen Concepts:

We will have hardwood flooring throughout the 1st floor and black appliances in the kitchen. Steve and I are currently thinking about a darker finish on the cabinets and flooring to pair with lighter counter tops and backsplash.

Love the natural stone backsplash!

Digging BLUE as an accent color

Exterior:

I am very particular about doors. This is the first impression guests have before they enter our house...no pressure there! I think Steve and I have selected a door that is classic yet architecturally interesting. As far as color, we'll see what we decide in the end. For now here are some snapshots from Greece to inspire!
